Apollo Tripod

May 2017

The Apollo Tripod is a futuristic stool design inspired by Ancient Greek culture and the Moon landing missions.

In Ancient Greece, tripods were prized possessions used for a wide range of domestic and spiritual functions. The most famous example residing in the Sanctuary of Apollo at Delphi, where the High Priestess sat upon a golden tripod to deliver the oracles of Apollo. The design of these ancient tripods featured a bowl-shaped top, which is referenced by the use of hemispheres in the new design.

Inspired by the Apollo Lunar Module's wide landing pads, the hemispherical feet of the Apollo Tripod provide stability on soft or uneven surfaces. The golden colour is also a reference to the Lunar Module, which was clad in thermal insulation blankets. This is achieved with an advanced spray metallised finish consisting of multiple layers, including pure silver and aerospace grade lacquer to protect it from damage.
