Aluminium Geodesic Cylinder Table by Connor Holland

Geodesic Cylinder Table Mk 3
July 2017

This Geodesic Cylinder design is the result of a years' experimentation with materials and structure, with each iteration being stronger and more efficient than the last. The aim of this continuous development is to create a truly 'Dymaxion' design, following Buckminster Fuller's ethos for the use of resources to maximum advantage, with minimal expenditure of energy and material. The resulting Aluminium cylinder only weighs 1.8kg, yet can easily support loads over 100kg thanks to its geodesic construction that spreads forces evenly across its structure.

While being lighter than steel and corrosion resistant, the polished Aluminium structure provides an attractive visual statement for any modern interior, and is well suited to many styles from contemporary to industrial. Aluminium is extremely versatile in terms of alternative finishes and styles, as it can be anodised, plated or powder coated in any colour. The table top is dyed Birch Plywood, which has a higher strength to weight ratio than Steel, finished with Danish Oil.

Geodesic Cylinder Table Mk 2
November 2016

Part of the Geodesic Range, combining industrial style with architectural structures. The Cylinder Table is handcrafted from polished copper and brass, with a selection of table tops. Utilising 'Continuous struts', the updated design has improved production efficiency by requiring less components and material. Its other new features are floor protecting feet, polished brass bolts and smooth black table top.

Geodesic Cylinder Table Mk 1
May 2016

My second design based on geodesic structures, utilising 70 polished copper pipe struts to form a cylindrical base for a side table. The birch plywood table top is charred, with electrically etched copper figures emanating from the centre point.
