Girder Candle Holder
|
In May of 2018, my old workshop was demolished in preparation to begin building my new workshop studio. As the western wall was being broken up, we discovered a structural steel girder above the window. After it was extracted, I made sure to salvage it for use in future projects.
The Girder Candle Holder is sliced from the salvaged beam, then cut into a cylinder. After being immersed in a rust removing solution for a day or more, it is cleaned further with a wire wheel. This preserves the unique texture formed over six decades of slow corrosion. The cut edges are sanded and polished to a mirror finish, to contrast the rough texture of the sides. |
